Homemade Biscuit Recipes

The first one is from my mom and it goes way back. It's the best homemade bread recipe that I have ever tasted, and yes this is another recipe that make me famous.

We have never measured this one; so the measurements are not exact, but very close. We always doubled or tripled this recipe so we could make cinnamon rolls, dinner rolls, and two loaves of bread.

MARILYN'S SWEET BREAD

1/2 TBS of white sugar
1 pkg of active dry yeast
3/4 cup of warm water
Mix these ingredients together in a non-reactive small bowl and set aside for yeast to develop.

1 cup of milk, scalded
1/4 cup of Crisco
Add these two ingredients together until Crisco is melted. Then add:

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
Stir together until dissolved. Then whisk in:

2 eggs and the developed yeast mixture.

Then add:
3-1/2 cups of flour

On a lightly floured surface, knead dough 5-7 minutes or until smooth and satiny. Lightly butter a glass bowl and put dough in the bowl - also lightly butter the top. Cover with a damp towel and let rise in a warm area until it has doubled in size. Punch dough down and form into a two loaves (seam side down) or rolls and place again in a well buttered bread pan. Cover and let rise again for 1 to 1/2 hours.

PREHEAT oven to 375 degrees.

Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until top of the bread is a deep golden brown. Remove from the oven and brush tops with butter. There you have it. You will receive more requests for this homemade bread recipe...

This is a foolproof recipe for white bread made in a bread machine. Turns out perfect every time.

2-1/4 tsp bread machine yeast
2 TBS butter, melted
2 TBS vegetable oil
3 cups white bread flour

Add the melted butter, oil, flour and salt. Select BASIC or WHITE BREAD and then hit "Start."

I am working on gluten-free recipes and stumbled across this great book. I was impressed. I am working diligently on my own gluten-free recipes and will post them as soon as I can. Enjoy.

FEATURED RECIPE:

HOMEMADE STRAWBERRY MUFFIN RECIPE

2 cups flour
1 cup white sugar
1 TBS baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 cup milk or half-and-half
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 tsp strawberry extract (optional)
1-1/2 cups fresh strawberries, quartered

Top the muffins with my Old-Fashioned Cream Cheese Frosting
(only make half of the recipe)

whole strawberries, halved (garnish)
powdered sugar (garnish)

PREHEAT oven to 400 degrees. Grease or use paper lined muffin tin; set aside.

In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Combine eggs, milk, oil and strawberry extract. Stir into the dry ingredients and mix JUST until incorporated (there will be lumps). Fold in quartered strawberries.

Spoon into greased muffin tins and sprinkle tops lightly with white sugar. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Sprinkle lightly with powdered sugar and top with a dollop of cream cheese frosting. Nestle a halved strawberry on top and smile. You just created a "good thing."
