Did someone say homemade cheese rolls? As a Wisconsin resident, I think we have the best cheese and these rolls showcase that. Add a few slices of ham and these make a great appetizer. They are also delicious as a light lunch with a fresh salad.
You can have these warm spiral cheese rolls out of the oven in no time at all. Find the best homemade bread recipes from scratch below.
Homemade Cheese Rolls
SPIRAL CHEESE ROLLS FROM SCRATCH
2 cups flour
5 tsp (1 TBS + 2 tsp) baking powder
1 tsp salt
2 TBS cold homemade unsalted butter
3/4 cup milk
1 cup grated cheese
PREHEAT oven to 450 degrees.
Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Cut in cold butter. Add milk and mix to a soft dough. Roll out thin on floured surface and sprinkle with cheese. Roll up like a jelly roll. Cut into 1 inch slices and place cut side up on greased baking sheet. Bake for 12 minutes.
Note: Placing pieces of ham before the cheese makes a great appetizer.
