This is the Coconut Pecan Frosting recipe you need to use for your homemade German chocolate cake. I have a prediction for you: you will never buy this frosting from the store again.
Creamy and delectable, you will want to eat it with a spoon.
RECIPE FOR COCONUT PECAN FROSTING
This easy frosting recipe is the traditional frosting and filling for a German Chocolate Cake. You will agree after tasting it that it is the best around. Check out my homemade cake and frosting recipes at the bottom of the page...
This frosting is also "to die for" on a dark chocolate cake. For a
variation use may use walnuts instead of pecans. Delicious on a Homemade Banana Cake too.
German Chocolate Cake Frosting
1 cup evaporated milk
1 TBS cornstarch
1 cup white sugar
3 egg yolks
1/2 cup butter
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup pecans, chopped (or to taste) - toasted
1/2 cup flaked sweetened coconut (or to taste), lightly roasted
Whisk the evaporated milk and cornstarch together in a large saucepan. Now add the sugar, egg yolks, butter and vanilla. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thick. Remove from heat and stir in pecans and coconut. Spread on cake while still warm.
Some folks like a lot more pecans and coconut than others. That's why I leave it up to you and put "or to taste" following the ingredients.
To toast the pecans and coconut, just place on a piece of foil
and place under the broiler (on medium or low) until it turns a light
golden brown. Watch it closely. Enjoy.
