Easy Salisbury Steak Recipe

OLD FASHIONED SALISBURY STEAK AND MUSHROOM GRAVY

Hamburger Steak Patties
1-1/2 lbs ground beef
1 tsp homemade garlic powder
1 tsp homemade onion powder
1/3 cup condensed French onion soup
1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
1 egg
salt and pepper to taste

Gravy

2 cans (10.5 ounce) condensed French onion soup, divided
2 cans cream of mushroom soup
1 envelope dry onion soup mix
1 TBS Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup ketchup
2 TBS flour
1/4 cup water
2 cups fresh mushrooms
1 tsp butter
1 tsp oil

Mix the hamburger steak ingredients together and form into 6 patties. Place in a hot skillet and brown both sides. Lower the temperature and cook.

Meanwhile, in a saucepan, mix the condensed onion soup, cream of mushroom soup, dry onion soup mix, worcestershire sauce and ketchup together and bring to slow boil. Mix the flour and water together and slowly whisk into the hot mixture and cook for 2 minutes. Lower heat, stirring occasionally.

Saute the mushrooms in butter or oil and add to the gravy. Serve with garlic mashed potatoes.

A wonderful side-kick to the salisbury steak recipe….

Garlic Mashed Potatoes

2 lbs russet potatoes – washed, peeled and quartered
1/2 tsp salt
4 TBS cold butter, chopped
3/4 cup half-and-half, or heavy cream, warmed
2 garlic cloves, minced
salt and pepper to taste

Place potatoes in a large saucepan and cover with water. Add the salt and bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer approximately 15 minutes. When you can easily poke through them – drain well and place back in the hot pan so the water on the potatoes can evaporate. After a couple minutes transfer to a bowl.

In the bowl, place the chopped butter and minced garlic on the hot potatoes and mash using a potato masher until you have small chunks. Add the half-and-half and finish mashing until desired consistency is desired. You may also use a mixer for this step.

NOTE:
For a change, why not make Blue Cheese Mashed Potatoes? Just add 1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese.
