This is a take on a basic hamburger recipe with some goodies added.

HAMBURGER HOT DISH (Mexican Hot Dish)
1 lb ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 green pepper, chopped
14.5 oz can Mexican stewed tomatoes (or chili style tomatoes)
1/2 cup water
1/25 oz package taco seasoning mix
2 cups elbow macaroni (or small shells), cooked and drained
2 cups shredded Mexican or cheddar cheese
PREHEAT oven to 375 degrees and grease a 11×7 inch pan. Set aside.
In a large pan, cook the beef, onion and green pepper until meat is cooked through; drain. Sprinkle with meat with garlic and onion powder. Add the tomatoes, water and taco seasoning; simmer for 7 to 10 minutes – stirring occasionally. Toss the pasta in with the meat mixture.
Spoon approximately 3 cups of mixture into the prepared pan. Sprinkle with 1 cup of cheese; top with remaining meat mixture. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
Uncover and sprinkle with remaining 1 cup cheese. Return to the oven and bake another 5 minutes or until cheese is melted.
I have mixed the cheese through the casserole instead of sprinkling it on the top; turns out well.
This hamburger recipe is simple and delicious.
MEAT BALLS IN MUSHROOM SAUCE
1 lb ground beef
1/3 cup cream
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1 medium onion, grated
1 medium potato, grated
salt and pepper
PREHEAT oven to 350 degrees.
Mix ingredients together and form into small balls. Brown (save pan drippings) and put in casserole dish and bake for 1 hour.
Mushroom Sauce
1/2 lb fresh mushrooms, sliced
1 tsp butter
pan drippings from frying meat balls
Place mushrooms and butter in a skillet and saute until tender. Thicken pan drippings and add to the mushrooms. Serve with meat balls. Mashed potatoes and a salad will round out this meal.
For this hamburger recipe, you may use your favorite sauce; Alfredo sauce also works well with the meat balls and serve over buttered noodles for something different. Fresh crusty homemade bread and a salad would make this lovely.

OLD FASHIONED SALISBURY STEAK AND MUSHROOM GRAVY
Hamburger Steak Patties
1-1/2 lbs ground beef
1 tsp homemade garlic powder
1 tsp homemade onion powder
1/3 cup condensed French onion soup
1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
1 egg
salt and pepper to taste
Gravy
2 cans (10.5 ounce) condensed French onion soup, divided
2 cans cream of mushroom soup
1 envelope dry onion soup mix
1 TBS Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup ketchup
2 TBS flour
1/4 cup water
2 cups fresh mushrooms
1 tsp butter
1 tsp oil
Mix the hamburger steak ingredients together and form into 6 patties. Place in a hot skillet and brown both sides. Lower the temperature and cook.
Meanwhile, in a saucepan, mix the condensed onion soup, cream of mushroom soup, dry onion soup mix, Worcestershire sauce and ketchup together and bring to slow boil. Mix the flour and water together and slowly whisk into the hot mixture and cook for 2 minutes. Lower heat, stirring occasionally.
Saute the mushrooms in butter or oil and add to the gravy. Serve with garlic mashed potatoes.
A wonderful side-kick to the Salisbury steak hamburger recipe….
Garlic Mashed Potatoes
2 lbs russet potatoes – washed, peeled and quartered
1/2 tsp salt
4 TBS cold butter, chopped
3/4 cup half-and-half, or heavy cream, warmed
2 garlic cloves, minced
salt and pepper to taste
Place potatoes in a large saucepan and cover with water. Add the salt and bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer approximately 15 minutes. When you can easily poke through them – drain well and place back in the hot pan so the water on the potatoes can evaporate. After a couple minutes transfer to a bowl.
In the bowl, place the chopped butter and minced garlic on the hot potatoes and mash using a potato masher until you have small chunks. Add the half-and-half and finish mashing until desired consistency is desired. You may also use a mixer for this step.
NOTE:
For a change, why not make Blue Cheese Mashed Potatoes? Just add 1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese.
