Fleas/Ticks

  • Natural Flea Collar: Soak a dog or cat collar in citrus oil with a few drops of lavender oil and lemon slices with water. Soak overnight and completely dry before putting on your pet.

  • Purchase a Vitamin B supplement from your vet. It works from the inside out.

  • Or Irish Spring Soap (or peppermint soap) Grind and sprinkle around.

  • Use a few drops of lavender oil in the pet’s bedding.

More Natural Flea Control Tips

Asian Beetles

  • Dietenacious Earth (food grade not pool grade) Gets rid of Asian Beetles IN THE HOUSE. Not toxic to pets or children. Fly spray also.
  • Rotenone (Darris Plant) Gets rid of Asian Beetles OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE. Mix with water or sprinkle around the home. Kills beetles, insects, earthworms and fish.

Flies and Mosquitoes

Put fresh basil and catnip in a muslin (porous) bag and hang two around the house.

Bothered by Mosquitoes when Grilling?

Put fresh rosemary and bay leaves on top of the lit coals to keep the bugs away.

Spiders

Spray the corners of your home with white vinegar and coconut oil in a sprayer. Use outside also.

Here are more homemade pest products:

Cats, Rabbits, Skunks, Raccoons
  • Use a mild solution of pneumonia and water around garbage cans. Red pepper and black pepper also works for cats and rabbits.

  • Rabbits (with pets around)
Plant wormwood (in nurseries) by your garden and outdoor plants. They are allergic to it. Or again sprinkle black or red pepper where they are.

  • In your Garden
Plant molasses grass around the garden.

Mice, Squirrels

Real peppermint oil on a cotton ball or 1/2 tsp in a spray bottle with water.

Cock Roaches

Use 2 TBS Tabasco or Hot sauce with water and spray.

Ants

  • Wash your counters with a mild solution of white vinegar and water. Do this every 3-4 weeks. Put bay leaves in all of the drawers in your kitchen.

  • Outside – Make a bait of wet cat food, a little boric acid and grape jelly.

Moles, Gophers and Ground Hogs

  • Buy a small transistor radio ($2-3) and leave it on a music station. Drop the radio down the entrance of the hole.

  • You can use a hot chile pepper.

  • You can use a small piece of chocolate laxative or peppermint oil on a cotton ball.

Bees

In a soda liter bottle, leave 2 inches of pop in it (not diet pop). They go in and can’t get out.

Bugs - Indoor Plants

Peel a clove of garlic and insert it in the soil with the thin side just peeking out of the soil.

Bugs - In Your Garden

Plant molasses grass around the garden.

The one thing that's bothers me is the fruit flies and gnats. Following is a quick recipe to get rid of these pests.

FRUIT FLY and GNAT TRAP

3-4 TBS apple cider vinegar
saran wrap
2 drops liquid dish soap
rubber band

In a small jar, add the vinegar and dish soap. Cover with plastic wrap and rubber band it in place. Poke holes in the saran wrap with a shish-kabob stick. Change the vinegar every couple of days. No more fruit flies.
