Fried apple rings recipe is the perfect item to pull out during the holidays. Drizzle with caramel and serve with ice cream, a perfect treat.
Fried Apple Rings Recipe
One large Granny Smith apple, cored vertically and peeled (makes 10 rings)
Batter
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp granulated sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk*
1 egg
1/2 inch oil for the bottom of your skillet or pan
Garnish
powdered sugar
ice cream
caramel sauce
sugar and cinnamon mix
Heat oil over medium-high heat. Meanwhile whisk the batter ingredients together in a bowl.
Slice the apple thin and dip the slices in the batter, turning it with a fork to thoroughly coat both sides. Slowly lower the apple slice in the hot oil and fry on one side until golden brown. Slowly turn over and fry until golden on the other side. It takes a few seconds on each side to cook; approximately 30 seconds, but check it after 30 seconds.
Remove the apples with a slotted spoon and let drain on paper towels for 60 seconds before eating.
My favorite way to eat these is spinkled with powdered sugar, vanilla ice cream and drizzled with caramel sauce.
