HOMEMADE RECIPE FOR PLAY-DOH From Scratch

2 cups boiling water
10 drops food coloring
2 cups flour
1 cups salt
2 TBS cooking oil
4 TBS cream of tartar

Mix together in a 3 quart saucepan. Cook over moderate heat for two minutes; stirring constantly. Will be very lumpy. Remove from heat and knead for 5 to 10 minutes. Stir in a plastic bag when not in use - will last for months.

No substitutions for this easy recipe for kids. It turns out perfect.

HOMEMADE SILLY PUTTY RECIPE

1/2 cup Elmer's glue
1/2 cup liquid starch
3 drops food coloring

Place white glue in a medium shallow dish. Slowly add liquid starch to glue, kneading with your fingers. The more you handle the silly putty, the better it will turn out.

If desired, add drops of food coloring, any color you want and continue to knead with hands (I wear rubber gloves so my hands do not get stained, until color is fully incorporated). Makes about 1 cup.
