HOMEMADE SALAD DRESSING

Homemade Salad Dressing

Homemade salad dressing is the cat's meow. I didn't really like "salad" until I made my own dressing. I have the most popular recipes listed below and if you are looking for something else, please email me now. Now on to the dressings!

HOMEMADE OLD FASHIONED FRENCH DRESSING

1 cup water
1 cup red wine vinegar
1 tsp white sugar
1 lemon, juiced
2-1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1/2 tsp homemade worcestershire sauce
1 tsp dry mustard
1 garlic clove, minced
1 cup olive oil
3 cups canola oil

Blend the first 9 ingredients in a food processor or blender (no oils).

Now add the olive and canola oils and pulse. Pour into an airtight 2 quart mason jar and store in the refrigerator. Shake well before serving.
Makes approximately 1-1/2 quarts.

Because we are starting this recipe with homemade mayo and not store-bought, you will find this so creamy and good that you will want to eat it with a spoon! It is great with Spicy Buffalo Wings and so much more.

HOMEMADE BLUE CHEESE SALAD DRESSING

HOMEMADE MAYONNAISE
1-1/4 cup canola oil, divided
1 egg, room temperature
3 TBS vinegar
1 tsp dry mustard
1 tsp kosher salt
pinch cayenne pepper

Place 1/4 cup of oil, salt, cayenne pepper, mustard and egg into a blender or food processor and pulse until completely blended.

SLOWLY add a thin stream of the remaining canola oil while the appliance is running until all is processed. Add the lemon juice and vinegar and whip until smooth and creamy.

Store in a airtight container in the refrigerator.

BLUE CHEESE DRESSING:

1 cup homemade mayonnaise, recipe above
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup buttermilk*
2 TBS onion, chopped
1 TBS fresh lemon juice
dash of homemade hot sauce
2 tsp white sugar
1 tsp homemade worcestershire sauce
1 tsp garlic, chopped
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp white pepper or freshly ground black pepper
6 ounces of good blue cheese

Combine mayonnaise, sour cream and buttermilk in a blender or food processor. Pulse to blend. Add the rest of the ingredients EXCEPT the blue cheese and pulse until thick and creamy. Place the salad dressing in a bowl and add blue cheese a little at a time and stir. (This is so you don't go overboard on the cheese.)

This homemade salad dressing must be refrigerated overnight before using. You don't want to go through these steps and not get the full flavor of the dressing.

*If you do not have buttermilk, pour the milk in a measuring cup and add 2 tsp vinegar. Stir and let it sit for 15 minutes.

Yum. This is a simple homemade salad dressing to make and tastes great! Use as a dressing for Reuben sandwiches.

Old Fashioned THOUSAND ISLAND DRESSING

1 cup homemade mayonnaise recipe below
2 TBS chili sauce
1 TBS fresh parsley, finely chopped
2 TBS green pepper, finely minced
1 tsp white onion, finely minced
1/8 tsp kosher salt
dash of white pepper or freshly ground black pepper

Whisk all of the ingredients in a small bowl. Place in the refrigerator for several hours before serving and stir every hour for the flavors to blend and the sugar to dissolve completely.

HOMEMADE MAYONNAISE
1-1/4 cup canola oil, divided
1 egg, room temperature
3 TBS vinegar
1 tsp dry mustard
1 tsp kosher salt
pinch homemade cayenne pepper

Place 1/4 cup of oil, salt, cayenne pepper, mustard and egg into a blender or food processor and pulse until completely blended.

ITALIAN HOMEMADE SALAD DRESSING

3/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
2 TBS water
2 tsp white sugar
1 tsp garlic, minced
1-1/2 tsp kosher salt
1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper, or to taste
2 TBS freshly grated parmesan cheese

Combine all ingredients and whisk until well incorporated. Pour into a glass bottle and refrigerate overnight before using. Shake well before serving.

This homemade salad dressing is so simple to make. Use it for your salad or as dipping sauce for chicken nuggets or fingers. Use fat-free yogurt if you want a healthier version.

HOMEMADE HONEY MUSTARD DRESSING

1/4 cup homemade mayonnaise
1 TBS homemade Dijon mustard
1 TBS honey
1-1/2 tsp fresh lemon juice

Whisk the above ingredients together and store in the refrigerator.
