This easy meatloaf recipe is a little different than your basic meatloaf. Anyone who tries it loves it. For parties make meatballs instead of the loaf, bake them and place in a crock pot with the sauce doubled.

SWEET AND SOUR MEATLOAF

1 lb ground sirloin
1/2 lb hot Italian sausage
1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded fancy (thin)
1 cup bread crumbs
1 tsp sea salt
1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
2 eggs
3 tsp dried minced onion
3 tsp minced garlic
2 cups homemade tomato sauce
4 TBS homemade brown sugar, packed
4 TBS cider vinegar
1 cup white sugar
4 tsp yellow mustard

PREHEAT oven to 350 degrees.

In a large bowl combine the beef, sausage, cheese, bread crumbs, sea salt, pepper, eggs, onion flakes, and 1/2 of one of the 15oz cans of tomato sauce. Mix together carefully - not to overwork the meat, as it will toughen it. Pat into a loaf and place in a large casserole dish. Bake for 45 minutes.

In the meantime, in a saucepan over medium heat; combine the remaining tomato sauce and 1/2 of the unopened can. (You will have 1/2 of a can of sauce leftover that will not be used in this recipe) Add the brown sugar, vinegar, white sugar, and mustard. Bring to a slow boil and remove from the heat.

After the meatloaf is done, remove from the oven and carefully drain the fat from the pan. Now pour the sauce over the top of the meatloaf. Return to the oven and reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake an additional 20 minutes. Let sit for five minutes before serving.

Hamburger Recipes
This hamburger recipe is for good old fashioned meatloaf. A basic recipe - yes, but certainly does not lack in flavor.

BASIC MEATLOAF RECIPE

SAUCE:
1/2 cup homemade ketchup
1/4 cup homemade brown sugar, packed
1 TBS homemade worcestershire sauce

MEATLOAF:
1-1/2 lb lean ground beef
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1 eggs
1-1/2 tsp kosher salt
1 small onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced,
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1 cup bread crumbs

PREHEAT oven to 350 degrees and lightly grease a 5x9 inch loaf pan.

In a mixing bowl, mix thoroughly all meatloaf ingredients and shape into a loaf. Mix the sauce ingredients together and spoon on top. Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour and drain the grease in the pan twice during baking time.

1 cup thin sliced celery
Dash of homemade garlic powder, or to taste

OLD FASHIONED SALISBURY STEAK AND MUSHROOM GRAVY

Hamburger Steak Patties
1-1/2 lbs ground beef

1/3 cup condensed French onion soup
1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
1 egg
salt and pepper to taste

Gravy
2 cans (10.5 ounce) condensed French onion soup, divided
2 cans cream of mushroom soup

1 TBS Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup ketchup

2 TBS flour
1/4 cup water

2 cups fresh mushrooms
1 tsp butter
1 tsp oil

Meanwhile, in a saucepan, mix the condensed onion soup, cream of mushroom soup, dry onion soup mix, worcestershire sauce and ketchup together and bring to slow boil. Mix the flour and water together and slowly whisk into the hot mixture and cook for 2 minutes. Lower heat, stirring occasionally.

Saute the mushrooms in butter or oil and add to the gravy. Serve with garlic mashed potatoes.

A wonderful side-kick to the salisbury steak hamburger recipe....

Garlic Mashed Potatoes

2 lbs russet potatoes - washed, peeled and quartered
1/2 tsp salt
4 TBS cold butter, chopped
3/4 cup half-and-half, or heavy cream, warmed
2 garlic cloves, minced
salt and pepper to taste

Place potatoes in a large saucepan and cover with water. Add the salt and bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer approximately 15 minutes. When you can easily poke through them - drain well and place back in the hot pan so the water on the potatoes can evaporate. After a couple minutes transfer to a bowl.

In the bowl, place the chopped butter and minced garlic on the hot potatoes and mash using a potato masher until you have small chunks. Add the half-and-half and finish mashing until desired consistency is desired. You may also use a mixer for this step.

NOTE:
For a change, why not make Blue Cheese Mashed Potatoes? Just add 1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese.
