This homemade apple strudel recipe fits the bill on a cool autumn day. Warm sweet apple filling rolled into a tender crust and drizzled with frosting. Delicious.
RECIPE FOR APPLE STRUDEL
Dough 2 cups flour 1 TBS baking powder 2/3 cup milk 1/2 tsp salt 2 TBS white sugar 6 TBS butter or shortening
Filling 3 TBS butter, softened 1/3 cup brown sugar 3/4 tsp cinnamon 2-1/2 cups chopped apples
Frosting 1-1/2 cups powdered sugar 2 TBS hot water 1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp white sugar, garnish before baking
Sift flour, measure and sift twice with salt, baking powder and sugar. Cut in butter. Add milk to form a soft dough. Turn out onto a slightly floured surface
PREHEAT oven to 400 degrees and grease a cookie sheet.
Knead dough gently and roll out into a rectangle approximately 1/4 inch thick. Spread with softened butter. Sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon and then apples.
Roll up jelly-roll style and seal ends well and place on the prepared baking sheet. Gently curl roll into a horseshoe and sprinkle with teaspoon of white sugar. Bake for 30 minutes. Cool slightly and drizzle with frosting that was made by blending powdered sugar with water and vanilla.
3/4 cup homemade mayonnaise 1/4 cup homemade cherry conserve 1/2 tsp curry powder 1/4 tsp salt 12 ounces crushed pineapple, well drained and squeezed dry 1/4 tsp lemon juice 2 cups finely chopped cooked chicken 1 cup finely diced celery 1/2 cup sliced green onion
First combine the mayonnaise, chutney, curry powder and salt. Add remaining ingredients - chill before serving.
